This sentence, “Much of Cattelan’s work deals with frustration, animals, politics, critiques of art itself, and even representations of the artist himself” feels awkward because of the use of the word ‘itself’ followed almost immediately by ‘himself’.
I really like the term ‘aesthetic rawness’, I think it was an apt way of describing the effect of the ropes. I definitely agree with most of your points, especially about the works becoming decontextualized by their presentation and losing their gravity,
Overall, the piece was well-written and comprehensible, good job.Sara Blazejhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16484821432393492070noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8466314672723988836.post-24084256308972563012011-12-16T17:11:17.452-08:002011-12-16T17:11:17.452-08:00Once you told me at the exHibition how you had see...Once you told me at the exHibition how you had seen some of the works in the past I definitely agreed that they lost their value when hung all crowded together as a mobile. When I walked into the show, and did not know that it was a retrospective, I thought that the hanging of all the pieces was one piece itself. Normally I enjoy going into shows without much information, but in this case I think you are absolutely right that one must read the pamphlet or the wall text. Once I knew that this show marked his retirement, along with the fact that the pieces were never normally presented this way, or together, I too felt like Cattelan was just giving up, literally just hanging everything up and walking away. I think you do a great job conveying how his work is normally shown and how this is more powerful.Julia Monkhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12376085102271320355noreply@blogger.com
