Countryside, the Future is a very informative exhibition that holds in the Guggenheim museum.

The exhibition is held by em Koolhaas. The whole exhibition is more like a press conference rather than an art exhibition. The official theme says it focuses on architecture. However, I do not see the focus and I think It talks about the countryside’s future from the aspect of economic, politics and technology.

It takes part in the whole building. Outside the building, there is a huge tractor that the wheel of it is higher than me. It serves as a hint of the museum. On the second floor, there is a roll of wallpaper that shows ancient philosophers saying about the countryside. There are philosophers from ancient civilizations like Greek, Roman, and China. Most of them express the author’s happy reposting and hope or review about the countryside.  For example, “ 于是览止足之志,于是览止足之分,庶浮云之志,筑室种树,逍遥自得。孝乎唯孝,友于兄弟,此亦拙者之为政也。” The poet lived in a time of political darkness, and the scholar-officials were in vogue for retiring to the countryside, which was also a kind of self-consolation.

On the third floor, There are three sections shows different countries’ progress in developing the countryside. Like Ecohome dry toilet and Solar greenhouse. The author also pastes the  Chinese government structure tree diagram on the wall which is so detailed and there is something I did not even familiar with as a Chinese.

In conclusion, the exhibition showed an all-around countryside view from large-scale planning by political force, migration, history, ecosystems, experimentation and so on.
