Group exhibitions come in various shapes and sizes. This can range from a randomized 'friends-and-family' show, to a highly curated selection of works, but for the exhibition, Neighborhood Watch at Downs & Ross gallery, the collaborative artists come together in a cohesive, narrative matter that is not common to come by. All participating artists have unique techniques in their medium and eye catching styles, but the coagulation comes in the story that each artist participates in. All works seem to display a peeping keyhole in which the viewer can read the canon of their fantasy neighborhood - a feeling similar to puzzle pieces participating in order to create an image. Some more literal, such as Nadia Belerique's series of stained glass windowed fire doors adorned with lit candles, titled, Yellow Jacket, stood next to esoteric abstract paintings such as Dylan Vandenhoeck's chaotic, spinning and swirling portrait of a dazed street, titled, Bridge/Chinatown/Sunglasses.  Works range from sculptural  monuments of the neighborhood the artists' work reside in, and stretch as far as wildly abstract, interpretive moments that give allowance to the viewer to listen to what story the piece is telling us.

Neighborhood Watch is a fascinating exhibition and is an example of how fun and successful a collaborative, storytelling group show has the potential to be.
